Two sherried Islay girls, i.e. Caol Ilas: 17 yo McKillop's Choice and 14 yo Maltbarn

Being the biggest Islay distillery Caol Ila can boast of a high quality spirit that sounds and tastes nice both in sherry and bourbon casks.

Moreover Caol Ila offers a vanishing possibility to buy aged Islay malt for a decent amount of money (EUR 200-300 for a cask strength Islay malt of 25-30 yo is not that much nowadays).

Caol Ila 17 yo McC 56.3% - the nose is very expressive with citrus fruits of all kinds. The taste  is a bit inferior with accent on nice wood and peel bitterness. Medim aftertaste bringing some ashes and smoke. Very good in general. 23 22 21 22, 88/100!

Caol Ila 14 yo Mba 58.8% - more reserved in the nose, you should warm it. Similar citrus notes (grapefruit) together with oily creaminess. Much more powerfull on a palate: malted barley, ashes, coal, saltiness with lo-o-ong finish. You can chew it and chew it and chew it (reserved by Gerry Tosh) and it just explodes in your mouth. If previous one could be compared with 17 yo college girl going to her morning classes, then this one is an uninhibited 14 yo high school girl hurrying from her classes to disco. 22 23 23 22, 90/100!
