Highland Park Sigurd 43%

Quite new travel retail expression of Highland Park bottled in 2013. Sad reality is shifting from vintage expressions (1973, 1990, 1994, 1998 etc) to NAS releases with loud Scandinavian names.

Highland Park Sigurd (the Warrior Series) 43% - not the cheapest HP ever, so I'm expecting some pleasure tonight.

Nose: surprisingly sweet for Highland Park, melons, peaches, mango, hints of malt, caramel, honey, eucalyptus and smoke. Some chocolate also. Not too powerful though lovely.

Taste: I would have preferred 45.7% or 48.1% strength, though it's obviosly better than 40%. Lots of oranges here, some spicy oakiness and apples.

Finish: oranges, spices, oak and a bit of salt. Not too long I must admit.

Overall: the nose is lovely, but the rest is quite simple. It's good for drinking while you're playing cards or watching TV, though in terms of money/complexity ratio I would have preferred successful batch of 18 yo (had unsuccessful one on Whisky Dram 2016, never would guess it's HP 18, excise stamp was from 2016). Though if you forgot to pack your favourite malt while preparing the suitcase for vacation this one will definitely do its job.

Score: 22 21 21 21, 85/100!
