I will use the most common system of 100 points which can also can be decsribed as a sum of 4 components being worth 25 points each (nose, taste, finish and balance). Certainly it has its flaws as we mostly use figures from 75 to 95/96/.../99, which makes it system of 20-25 points. Though it's the most popular and well-known scoring system at the moment so let it be so.
Short description for each label I use in posts:
1-69: I can't call it a whisky.
70-74: below average, but you still can call it a whisky.
1-69: I can't call it a whisky.
70-74: below average, but you still can call it a whisky.
75-79: average, not too bad though it doesn't bring any pleasure.
80-84: quite good, worth tasting. But usually I won't buy a second bottle.
85-89: recommendable, definitely worth buying a bottle. Especially the ones with 88/100 or 89/100 score.
90-93: great whisky, where every component brings you pleasure. Highly recommended, grab it if you can.
94-96: exceptional whisky that brings you to heaven. Utterly recommended.
97-100: no right words for it. Nirvana?..
As far as I noticed the score for the same whisky can easily vary + - 1 point depending on mood, food, weather, the malts you've tasted before et cetera. So don't take these scores too seriously.
