Haven't tasted whisky for 3 days so I decided to build evening set of 3 malts with sea influence: Bowmore (Islay), Clynelish (Highland) and Ledaig (Mull). The order would be from the oldest to the youngest sticking to strength growth.
Bowmore 25 yo small batch 43% - the nose is tad perfumery, dusty leaves, cold tea, some rubber and smoke. Despite commercial strength it does have body, on palate you get sea bitterness, fruits (prunes?), pepper, ginger and oak. Finish is long, salty with pepper and oak notes dominating. All of this is well rounded and complex. Excellent malt. Score = 89/100!
Clynelish 18 yo SV 55.4% - tasting sherried Clynelish is at least interesting :) Light sherry notes in the nose (indeed?..), lemon and sea. The same happens on palate decorated with light oaky bitterness. Despite its strength very drinkable. Actually I liked more Maltbarn bourbon matured Clynelish style, though this one is also pretty good, 87/100!
Ledaig 9 yo Potstill 60.7% - the last but not the least. The youngest, the most light coloured and obviously the wildest. Sweet (!) burnt rubber in the nose. Minerals. Lemons and oily fish. On palate you get sweet raw potatoes (have you ever tasted them this way?..), the body is strong, spicy and oily. How do they manage to create such tasty stuff in such young age?.. Indeed quite similar to Ardbeg for better or for worse. Score = 89/100!
