Glenfarclas 21 yo 51.5% (bottled in 1974 for Mr Edward Giaccone)

Nothing extraordinary was going to happen when suddenly such Glenfarclas appeared on horizon...

rare Glenfarclas 21 yo bottled 1974 for Mr Edward Giaccone

Score 96 from Serge, distillation in 1953 and auction price of EUR 1250 on Feb 2015 Whiskyauction suggests this one should be a cracker :) I won't tell you the whole story how it was traded for Macallan, though on 07.10.2016 it was opened on my friend birthday tasting.

Glenfarclas 21 yo 51.5% - this 21 yo Glenfarclas was bottled in 1974 for Italian market with very nice strength of 51.5%. Sherry maturation. Screw cap. No more words necessary. Is it Glenfarclas unicorn?..

Nose: very dense and rich on honey, sherry, leather, nuts, tobacco and cold tea. Some industrial aromas as well. Very subtle smokiness. No alcohol, no sharp edges, everything is brilliantly polished.

Taste: also dense and rich with lots of "oomph", some citrus, brown sugar, chocolate and spearmint appear as well.

Finish: ve-ery long, astringent, a bit smoky.

Overall: superb old Glenfarclas at right strength. I'm not Speyside maniac and 96/100 seems a bit too much for me, but this one is just great. Thanks to Alexey for opening such a rarity!

Score: 23.5 23.5 23 23, 93/100!
