Ledaig 18 yo 46.3% and Ledaig 21 yo Cadenhead 53.6%

A pair of Ledaigs tonight. Winter is coming...

Ledaig 18 yo 46.3% - finished in sherry casks, so we may presume that initial maturation was done in bourbon hogheads.

Nose: wet rags, rotten meat, dirty sherry, some sulphur notes, rust remover. These are certainly not my favourite aromas, but they are so curiosly put together, that I just can't put low mark :) it's like opening the door to hell: most likely you won't like the smell but it's difficult to deny its inner logics.

Taste: earth, ashes and then some sweetness.

Finish: salty, ashy and kippery. Some oak also.

Overall: quite nice Ledaig, though this very sherry finish made it a bit dirty and unbalanced.

Score: 21 21 22 21, 85/100! However it's just a question of personal taste, I've seen higher marks from the guys I do respect.

Ledaig 21 yo 1992/2014 Cadenhead Small Batch 53.6% - this one has been matured in bourbon hogsheads.

Nose: much cleaner and fresher, sweetness and barley rule here.

Taste: earth, coal, oak, hints of salt and peat.

Finish: combo of oakiness and sweetness.

Overall: I liked this one more. Quite often small batches from Cadenhead are very nice, should pay more attention to them.

Score: 22 22 21 22, 87/100!
