Benriach 11 yo single cask for Whisky Dram, Hazelburn 9 yo Barolo Cask and Springbank 12 yo CS batch #13

TGIF. And Friday evening is a perfect time to have a couple of new drams in Goodwine whisky location.

Today's aim was to taste cask strength Benriach bottled for Whisky Dram 2016 as well as some new arrivals of Springbank distillery.

Benriach 11 yo 2005/2016 Sauternes finish cask #1040 for Whisky Dram 2016 56.5% - sweet raisins, nuts and oil in the nose. Even more oil on a palate passing into sweet and powerful finish. Perfect whisky for occasions when you want some sweetness but not sherry. Score: 22 22 21 21, 86/100!

Hazelburn 9 yo 2007/2016 Barolo cask 57.9% - Springbank distillery is experimenting a lot with different casks nowadays. And some of those efforts are really good. Let's see... The nose is very restrained, you should put your nose deep in the glass to feel anything. A few drops of water help but there's no critical difference actually. The nose is a bit sour at first, then some sweetness and perfumes arrive. Quite simple though sweet and powerful palate. Finish isn't long. Score: 21 22 21 21, 84/100!

Hazelburn 9 yo 2007/2016 Barolo cask 57.9%

Springbank 12 yo CS batch 13 56.3% - have tried it before but I'm always ready for Springbank :) Nose: salt, citrus fruits, old dunnage warehouse, elegantly Springbank-ish. Palate is smooth, salty, creamy and spicy. Touch of peat. Everything is wonderfully balanced, I just don't imagine how they produce such a beatuful malt and charge only EUR 50 for it. Please don't tell them it's that good. Score: 22 22 22 22, 88/100!
