Port Ellen 7-th release 1979/2007 54.7%

Robert Burns night should be celebrated with something special, why not Port Ellen?..

Port Ellen 7-th release 1979/2007 54.7% - I liked 6-th release very much, let's see what this one will show us.

Nose: lots of olive oil, freshness and maltiness, wet wool and sea notes. After some time sweet almond and lemon appear. Even wax and stones after 15 min a glass.

Taste: concentrated and bitter, salty and sour, oily and peppery. Smoked ham. Just a drop of water leads to pepper and salt domination, don't do that if you want to keep the balance right :)

Finish: long on liquorice, kippers and salt. Plenty of oak as well.

Overall: smooth and convincing Port Ellen, but there is no such drive as in 6-th release which I liked more. Should mention that it might differ from a large bottle of 7-th release as they have different strength: 54.7% in a small bottle and 53.8% in a large one and possibly these are slightly different malts. Nevertheless it's still great.

Score = 23.5 23 23 23, 92.5/100!
