Tonight we'll have a couple of 30 yo malts together with young Bunna from 90s.
Bunnahabhain 12 yo 43% (bottled in 90s) - there were also 40% versions, though this is one is 43%.
Nose: fresh, whiffs of iodine, creamy mint candy, grassy notes as well, then sherry influence becomes more obvious: coffee, struck matches and lightest smoke.
Taste: not too powerful, sweet creamy background with brushstrokes of nuts and smoked apricots.
Finish: medium-long, sweet and salty with touches of mint, ginger and smoke.
Overall: very pleasant and drinkable Bunna. First try was around 84 points, for second time I liked it even better, so let it be 85/100. Be aware that different batches are of different quality.
Dallas Dhu 1981/2007 DT cask #432 55.7% - distillery closed in 1983, 204 bottles released.
Nose: intense, grassy, ethereal, butter after 10 min, gets better and better with time.
Taste: powerful one, herbal bitterness (sagebrush?) with sweeter citrus note.
Finish: medium-long on bitter herbs and biting oak.
Overall: not an easy malt, gotta spend some time with it. Reward will come.
Score = 22.5 22 21.5 22, 88/100!
Tomatin 30 yo 46% (bottled 2011) - 1200 bottles released.
Tomatin 30 yo 46% (bottled 2011) - 1200 bottles released.
Nose: full of tropical fruits - passion fruit, carambola, mango, banana, pineapple plus little touch of salted cucumbers after a while.
Taste: quite thick and fruity with subtle herbal bitterness.
Finish: long, fruity, a bit of tannic oak balanced with caramel sweetness on top.
Overall: in case you like tropical fruitiness - you should try it! Very round malt, maybe the nose is notch better than other components.
Imperial 1995/2016 SV cask #50246+50247 55.6% - vatting of 2 casks, there have been several similar releases from SV.
Nose: quite harsh with lots of alcohol. Creamy note after a while. Doesn't feel like 21 years in a cask really.
Taste: better, spicy and fruity.
Finish: bitterness...
Overall: well, completely not my style though some guys rated that one high.
Linkwood 31 yo 1981/2013 Cadenhead Chairman Stock 44.8% - 204 bottles released.
Nose: light varnish notes (but pleasant ones), old wood, men's eau-de-cologne and whiffs of leather.
Taste: very intense on coffee, oak and chocolate.
Finish: long, sweet and woody, hints of smoke, earth and leather.
Overall: a gentleman's drink to be savoured late in the evening in some kind of private London club.
