Two mystic drams: Bunnahabhain Moine Feis Isle 2009 58.4% and St Magdalene IM 1982/2009 55%

We're continuing playing "guess what's in your glass" game, this time we have a couple of drams.

Bunnahabhain Moine Feis Isle 2009 58.4% - 642 bottles released.

Nose: quite faint, mash and malt notes, hay and tea. Well, I have met 6 yo malts with much better noses :)

Taste: powerful, salty and peaty. Not too complicated but quite tasty, the way the whisky was made centuries ago I guess :)

Finish: long, salty and sweet with touch of liquorice.

Overall: it's not that bad in my opinion as you might read in WB comments, though certainly 6 years of maturation weren't enough for this particular Bunnahabhain spirit. Nevertheless "it's a malt mark", taste and finish bring pleasure. Strictly in my opinion of course.

Score = 20 22 22 20, 84/100!

Nose: oh, grass, hay, dry leaves, touch of citrus, strawberry (!), fir-needles, quinine, mineral tones, very unusual one.

Taste: smooth and expressive bringing citrus, liquorice, resin and wood notes combined with pleasant oiliness.

Finish: oaky and lemony, almost schweppes water. Subtle waxiness as well.

Overall: beautiful lowlander, fell in love with this style!

Score = 23 23 22 23, 91/100!

St Magdalene 1982/2009 IM Chieftain's Choice cask #2219 55.0%
