It was Friday again and a bunch of whisky maniacs popped into Goodwine store to taste Cadenhead novelties.
Highland Park 20 yo 1996/2016 Cadenhead Single Cask 50.6% - matured in bourbon hogshead, 258 bottles released.
Nose: reserved at first, though then it gets better. Grassiness, vanilla, honey and oranges.
Taste: quite spicy and prickly which is strange for 20 yo.
Finish: long one, salty, with nice menthol notes.
Overall: well, I expected far more from it, maybe it needs more time to open up.
Score = 21 21 22 21, 85/100!
Bruichladdich 24 yo 1992/2016 Cadenhead Small Batch 53.3% - the label states 3 bourbon hogsheads and total of 588 bottles.
Nose: very elegant and sherry-like, a bit confused about bourbon casks statement on the label. Lemony, fresh, fruity, green currants.
Taste: creamy and fruity, spicy and nutty.
Finish: long one, spicy, lemons and pineapple, touch of salt and smallest hint of peat.
Overall: great balance, almost no peat, very fresh and fruity Bruichladdich, at this price (EUR 110) it's a bargain, recommended.
Score = 22.5 22.5 22.5 22.5, 90/100!
