Laphroaig 15 yo 43% (bottled 2008)

Tasted this one in 2009 on Islay (Laphroaig has just stopped production of 15 yo and was expecting 18 yo expression to be bottled), time for retasting has come!

Said to be favourite Prince Charles whisky Laphroaig 15 yo stayed in memory as a very good malt. You would hardly believe me: I found it in a tiny Spar shop located in Port Ellen harbour for 20 or 25 pounds :) Yep, the grass was greener...

Laphroaig 15 yo 43% (bottled 2008) - beautiful old gold colour, what will it bear?..

Nose: fresh and elegant, sea salt, medicine, citrus, wet oak, becomes sweeter after a while, a hint of red rowan in the end.

Taste: smooth, peaty, salty, bitter, sweet and unexpectedly grassy. Bitter lime put in a salt. Tequila-lime-salt all in one combo! Very friendly, very complex and much more elegant than standard 10 yo.

Finish: long and salty, touch of liquorice, malty notes at the end.

Overall: I have increased the mark for 2 times, it is delicate and complicated malt that needs your time and patience. Nice malt for a gentleman.

Score = 22 23 22 22, 89/100!
