That would be random selection of samples I've tried recently. Just to dot the i's.
Glendronach cask strength batch #4 54.7% - blend of PX and oloroso sherry casks.
Nose: sweet, chocolate and nuts, some wood and lots of fruits, namely tangerines, apricots and raisins. After some time a slight hint of mint appears.
Taste: powerful, spicy and fruity, honey, raisins, grapefruit, ginger and pepper.
Finish: lingering and prickling, again some nuts and raisins followed by licorice, pepper and touch of mint.
Overall: great stuff for that price, the second time I've tried it I liked it less, but that is another story.
Score = 21 22 23 22, 88/100!
Invergordon 46 yo 1966/2012 DR cask #5 51.9% - bourbon cask, 228 bottles released.
Nose: generously sweet, sugar cane, rum, ripe bananas and vanilla.
Taste: very mild and mellow for that strength, tons of tropical fruits (mango, banana, pineapple), vanilla and pleasant oak.
Finish: long, surprisingly fresh, X-mas bakery, tropical fruits, exotic flowers and buddist temple flavours.
Overall: beautiful colour and great example of old grain whisky. Tastes much better from just opened bottle.
