Quite a break occurred (summertime, you know), so let's open July page with 4 very decent malts.
Ledaig 9 yo Maltbarn №31 48.1% - 141 bottles released.
Nose: typical and clean, raw potatoes, sea air, smoke and limes. No dirty rags this time and that's good piece of news :)
Taste: elegant, salty with smoke and pepper layers.
Finish: first wave is short but then comes much longer second one bringing sea water and bitter ashes.
Overall: clean and pure Ledaig, immensely elegant for its age. Recommended but quite impossible to get already.
Score = 22 22 22 22, 88/100!
Springbank 12 yo CS batch #9 54.3% - said to contain 60% fresh and 40% refill sherry hogsheads.
Nose: sweet sherry notes, old Campbelltown warehouse, salty cheese and hint of smoke. Salt and earth of Campbelltown shore.
Taste: dense, lots of minerals and citrus fruits, ashes and spices.
Finish: long, salty and fruity.
Overall: all these Springbank 12 CS batches are very good in terms of price/pleasure and batch #9 is no exception.
Score = 22.5 22 22.5 22, 89/100!
Glendronach Grandeur 25 yo batch #7 50.6% - 1180 bottles released.
Nose: unexpectedly fresh with lots of tropical fruits, sweet tea, mint chocolate, raisins and touch of ginger.
Taste: sweet and rich, fruits, raisins and mellow oak notes.
Finish: long, fresh (mint?..) and creamy.
Overall: elegant and fresh, sherry isn't as thick as it could be in old Glendronach, utterly enjoyable malt, thanks to Sergii!
Score = 23 22 23 23, 91/100!
Dalwhinnie 29 yo 1973/2003 57.8% - 5220 bottles released.
Nose: gorgeous fruit plate - pears, oranges, apples, tropical fruits, gets creamier with time, lots of honey pollen, vanilla and grass at the end. Wow!
Taste: oily and dense on sweet apples and honey. Quite drinkable despite its strength.
Finish: long, sweet and fruity with touches of oak and soft spices.
Overall: takes some time to open up though you'll be rewarded for patience.
Score = 23 22 22.5 22.5, 90/100!
