Whisky felling #20. Christmas malts: Glenglassaugh 30 yo 42.0%, Macallan 12 yo Exceptional cask 2005/2017 cask #10 65.9%, Glenfarclas 1973/2002 cask #4788 46%, Glendronach 28 yo 1990/2019 cask #7905 51.7%, Highland Park 20 yo 1983/2003 distillery only 56.4%

There is an idea that the best whisky for Christmas should come from sherry casks. Let's try to find out if that's true.

Glenglassaugh 30 yo 42.0% - comparatively new bottling (previous one was 44.8%). Utterly drinkable, scored 91/100 during the first round, dropped a bit during the second one, but still very nice.

Score = 23 22 22 23, 90/100!

Glenfarclas 1973/2002 cask #4788 46% - quite old Glenfarclas bottled 17 years ago. Didn't expect such a wow. The nose gives you everything sherry can bring into the malt plus some benzene layer (close to peat, but not exactly). Dense and robust taste at 46% and long lingering finish.

Score = 23.5 23 23.5 23, 93/100!

Macallan 12 yo Exceptional cask 2005/2017 cask #10 65.9% - exceptional Macallan at exceptional price.  The most contradictory malt of the evening with scores spreading from 84/100 to 92/100. Really good nose (roses, berries, gentle sherry and no alcohol). Taste and finish are dense, but that kind of strength is a bit too much for my taste buds, sheer hammer blow, it was difficult to get the details out of it.

Score = 23 21 22 22, 88/100!

Glendronach 28 yo 1990/2019 cask #7905 51.7% - fresh 2019 release. Before the tasting it scored 92+ on WB and expectations were quite high, but it's just good sherried Glendronach.

Score = 22 22 22 22, 88/100!

Highland Park 20 yo 1983/2003 distillery only 56.4% - utterly rare thing getting 95/100 from famous HP drinker Olivier Humbrecht. Reverse situation with choosing this very bottle: before the tasting it was around 89 points on WB, but in fact you can't go wrong with CS official bottlings, it is old, heavy, sherried Highland Park which takes you by storm. The best taste and finish of the evening for me.

Score = 23 24 24 24, 95/100!
