Random session: Glenfiddich 8 yo Pure malt 43%, Justerini & Brooks 20 yo 75 proof and Glenfarclas 40 yo 46%

Quite bizarre trio, but why not after all?..

Just to show evolution of colour:

Glenfiddich over 8 yo Pure malt 43% - this one can easily be one of the first Glenfiddich single malts launched in 1960-s.

Nose: delicate and fruity, whiffs of flour paste (old bottle effect in action?..), plenty of nectarines, bananas and touch of sweet citrus.

Taste: sweet, creamy and malty, ripe pears and white pepper.

Finish: medium-long mainly on oak and pepper.

Overall: I liked nose and taste notch better comparing to finish, nevertheless it's quite enjoyable dram.

Score = 21.5 21.5 21 21, 85/100!

Justerini & Brooks 20 yo 75 proof - vatted malt which is rumoured to be bottled in 1970s and contain some significant share of Bowmore spirit, isn't it inspiring?.. :)

Nose: aha, another league here, very fresh and resinous, unfolds into wet dusty leaves (have met this in Bowmore 25 yo), sea air and wet salty ropes (thanks to Oleg Kozlovskiy for that idea).

Taste: starts on sweet honey and cream, then it gets drier and transforms into resin and tobacco. Lovely one.

Finish: medium-long with touches of salted raspberry (again signs of Bowmore?) and cherry.

Overall: great malt which is very likely to be produced on islands.

Score = 23 22 22 22, 89/100!

Glenfarclas 40 yo (bottled 2010) 46% - this particular sample was taken from a bottle released in 2010, in 2015 they switched to 43% in 40 yo releases.

Nose: unfolds quite slowly, but after time you get fullest pallette of sherried whisky - raisins, sherry, prunes, dark chocolate, demerara sugar, cocoa beans, touches of herbs and mint, coffee, soft oak and resins on top of that symphony.

Taste: rich and coating, chocolate, coffee and pepper trio evolving into herbs and resins.

Finish: eternally long, tannic (but not too much), layers of chocolate, prunes and leather, mint and spices at the very end. Top class.

Overall: that is perfect example of perfect aged sherried whisky. And I assume that is the cheapest official 40 yo expression on a market.

Score = 24 23 23 23, 93/100!
